I've been working with clay for about 15 years. What started out
as just something to try on my days off has become one of my
favorite things to do. I do limited local shows, but mostly I make
pieces by commission. Some items on the site may be gone, but I
can typically make something similar, and I try to keep bestsellers
in stock. I am happy to answer questions about any of the pieces.
All of my pieces are either hand built, or thrown on a wheel or a combination of both methods. They must be dried to a leather-hard stage, then can be altered or trimmed. After they completely dry, they are fired to a porous state. They are then glazed and re-fired to the sturdy stoneware you see in the pictures. Although I may use non-food safe glaze on a purely decorative piece, most of the pieces are food, microwave, dishwasher, and even oven-safe. Glazes won't always turn out the same, so expect there to be differences, even within a set.
I generally make things to fill a need (mine or someone else's). I have
some decorative pieces, but I love the idea of making usable everyday
items into art! I try to consider the shape of the pieces to make them
as comfortable as possible; the feel and function is as important to me
as the aesthetic. Some of my favorite pieces have been things
customers asked me to create, or things that happened by accident!
